In the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix, dubbed "LA without the Pacific," blends high-end shopping, a thriving culinary scene, and resort life. You'll find brilliant red mountains and cacti-lined boulevards instead of golden beaches and palm palms. Phoenix's location is so appealing that the once-ranch town has grown to become the sixth most populous metropolis in the United States. With palatial resorts, hundreds of golf courses, a thriving bar scene, and affordable lodging rates, it's easy to understand why this city has become a popular retreat for snowbirds, families, and 20-somethings. Desert Botanical Garden: Flora may appear to be the last thing you'd expect to find in the desert. Thousands of species of cactus, trees, and flowers from all over the world may be found at the Desert Botanical Garden. The vividly colourful flora in the garden contrast dramatically with the cinnamon-red buttes of the Sonoran Desert, and there are various hiking routes, including the Plants and People of the Sonoran Desert and the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Loop.
Camelback Mountain: Camelback Mountain, one of Phoenix's tallest peaks, is one of the city's most picturesque hiking destinations. Camelback's top, at more than 2,700 feet in height, offers amazing vistas of Phoenix and Scottsdale and is accessible by the 1.2-mile (very steep) Echo Canyon Trail.
Musical Instrument Museum: The Musical Instrument Museum, about 20 miles north of Phoenix, welcomes tourists to view its collection of over 6,000 instruments from throughout the world. Instruments, performance video, notable artists' attire, and more may be seen on the museum's first level.
Phoenix Zoo: The Phoenix Zoo is a fantastic location to take your children to experience nature without them being bored. There are four paths (totaling 212 miles) that wound their way through the various environments found on this 125-acre plot of property. Baboons, Sumatran tigers, Asian elephants, Galápagos tortoises, and Komodo dragons are among the creatures housed in the zoo.
The greatest time to visit Phoenix is from November to April, when the weather is clear and the temperatures are in the upper 60s, 70s, and low 80s. However, keep in mind that the seasons in this desert city are difficult to predict. In the fall, the leaves do not change colour, and flowers do not bloom in the spring. Temperature variations will be noticeable, especially during the hot summers, when highs reach above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. You may get fantastic prices at luxury resorts if you can stand the dry, oppressive heat.
